About Daniel Pierce,
MA, LCMHC, ICAADC
Instructor • Guide • EMDR Therapist
Daniel Pierce is an experienced tenkara instructor, licensed Maine fishing guide, and EMDR therapist who brings together his passion for simple, skillful angling with his commitment to trauma-informed care. As the owner and founder of Maine Tenkara Guide, Dan is recognized as the first registered Maine guide to specialize exclusively in tenkara — the traditional Japanese style of fly-fishing known for its elegant simplicity and minimal equipment.

Introduced to tenkara over a decade ago, Dan has fished exclusively in this style for more than 10 years, honing his craft in the rivers and lakes of Northwestern Maine. He provides both group and one-on-one instruction, offering approachable, clear guidance that helps anglers of all ages experience the joy and focus of tenkara.
Dan's Approach
A lifelong Mainer, Dan guides on his home waters for native brook trout, landlocked salmon, and smallmouth bass. Outside of guiding, he works full-time as a school counselor and EMDR therapist, bringing a grounded, compassionate, and educational approach to all he teaches.

Dan believes tenkara is not only accessible but deeply enjoyable — a method that allows people to learn quickly, connect with nature, and experience the simple pleasure of being on the water. He looks forward to sharing this remarkable style of fishing with beginners and experienced anglers alike.
