About Tony Parmenter
MA, LCMHC, ICAADC EMDRIA Approved Consultant
Founder • Trauma Therapist • Trainer • Fishing Rod Designer • U.S. Military Veteran
Tony Parmenter is the founder of the Seiyu Institute for Health & Training and the creator of Therapeutic Fly-Fishing with EMDR (TF-EMDR)®, an innovative trauma therapy method that integrates EMDR, somatic attunement, and fixed-line fly-fishing in natural settings. A licensed clinical mental health counselor, EMDRIA Approved Consultant, and internationally recognized educator, Tony brings together decades of clinical expertise with a lifelong connection to the outdoors.
A U.S. military veteran with deployment experience in Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Southern Watch, Tony’s work is deeply informed by his commitment to resilience, service, and post-traumatic growth. His personal history spans both the native trout waters of the northern and northeastern United States and the forests and mountain streams of western Tokyo, Japan — landscapes that shaped his philosophy of healing, presence, and connection.
Specialties
As a clinician, Tony specializes in trauma-influenced conditions, attachment-focused EMDR, nature-based psychotherapy, somatic work, and integrative approaches to trauma healing. As an educator, he trains mental health professionals across the country in TF-EMDR, Adventure-Based Counseling, and eco-informed trauma therapy, offering both retreat-style intensives and advanced consultation.
Beyond his clinical and teaching roles, Tony is also a rod designer and developer, crafting high-quality Japanese carbon fiber fixed-line rods through Seiyu River Resources. He leads guided Tenkara fly-fishing excursions in Vermont and is a Licensed Wisconsin Fishing Guide, blending skill-building with the nervous-system regulation found in mindful outdoor practice.
Whether teaching therapists, supporting clients, designing gear, or guiding time on the water, Tony’s mission remains consistent: to help people access healing, freedom, creativity, and reconnection through nature, movement, and evidence-based clinical practice.
